1. Where do I mail my payment?

For NC customers please mail you payment to:

U.S. Cellular
P.O. Box 530724
Atlanta, GA 30353-0724

 2. What are typical costs associated with wireless service?

On most plans you will have a monthly access fee for a specific number of minutes, a onetime activation fee is charged unless otherwise stated.  You will also be charged for any minutes that are used above the number that your plan allows. Your bill will also include taxes.

 3. I just got my first bill from U.S. Cellular, and the charges are higher than I expected. Why?

Phone service is charged for in advance, you will be charged from the day that you activate you phone to your billing day (which will be assigned at the time of activation) and you will be charged for the upcoming month.  Example if you activate your phone on the 3rd of the month and your billing date is the 13th, your monthly access fee will be prorated for the 3rd through the 12th, and a monthly charge for the upcoming month.

 4. How many days do I have to pay my bill?

You usually have around 20 days from the billing close date to pay your bill, that does not mean 20 days from the time you get it in your hand.  Look at the top right corner of your cellular phone bill for the exact due date.

 5. How can I help ensure prompt processing of my bill payment?

Please return the bottom part of your bill with  your payment.  U.S. Cellular provides you with a return envelope.  For other options please call 1-888-944-9400.

 6. Can I pay my bill online?

Online payments are not accepted at this time.  You can pay by check or credit card by calling 1-888-944-9400

 7. Will I be charged if someone calls me on my wireless phone?

You will be charged for all incoming and outgoing calls on your cellular phone.

 8. Will I be charged when I place a call and get a busy signal or no answer?

In N.C. there is no charge for busy or no answer if the phone does not ring for more than 45 seconds from the time you hit the send key.  If you are roaming, charges are billed by the local wireless carrier for the area you are in.

 9. How can I change my billing address?

You can dial 611 from your wireless phone if you are in your plans coverage area or you can call 1-888-944-9400.

 10. What should I do if I move out of my home service area?

Simply contact a U.S. Cellular representative by dialing 611 from your wireless phone or 1-888-944-9400, they will explain all of your options

 11. Is there sales tax on wireless service?

Normal taxes will apply for your wireless service based on your home address just as they would for your existing utilities such as electricity and your home telephone.

 12. What is the Universal Service Fund?

In the Telecommunications Act of 1996, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) created a directive that allowed for a federal Universal Service Fund to ensure quality, affordable telecommunications service to all consumers, especially those in rural areas, as well as to schools, libraries and hospitals.

Beginning in 1998, all telecommunications carriers, including U.S. Cellular, had to start contributing to support universal telephone service. Each U.S. Cellular line is assessed this charge, which may be adjusted from time to time based on revised government calculations.

 13. Is there a charge for 911 calls?

U.S. Cellular does not charge for 911 calls. However, if you are roaming when you call, roaming charges may apply. Please remember that 911 may not be available in some areas of the country.

 14. What are roaming charges?

Roaming charges refer to those fees you incur when using your wireless phone outside your U.S. Cellular home service area. These fees may include airtime, daily surcharges, long distance and an administration fee.

 15. What is an Expanded Local Calling Area?

Your Local package "anytime minutes" are applied within a Local Coverage Area provided with most U.S. Cellular Local Calling Plans. In addition, there is also an "Expanded Local Calling Area". When you make a call from the Expanded Local Calling Area, you will be charged only $.30 per minute instead of the roaming rate of $.65 per minute . (Roaming rates are applied when you travel beyond the Expanded Local Calling Area .) This applies to local plans only.

 16. What are Special Roamer charges?

Special Roamer airtime refers to the charges incurred for the delivery of a call to your wireless phone while you are outside your home area. This is a preferred roaming rate that applies to calls made within your Extended Home Service Area. Although you are only charged for those calls once, itemization of Special Roamer calls will appear in both the Call Detail and Roaming Detail portion of the bill.

 17. What is Home Rate Roaming?

The area in which you subscribe to U.S. Cellular service is referred to as your home service area. Beyond that area, your specific calling plan may designate a Home Rate Roaming area. Home Rate Roaming minutes are billed at your calling plan's per-minute rate, the same rate you are charged for usage if you exceed your package minutes. Unlike Extended Home Service Area, Home Rate Roaming minutes are not deducted from your calling package's minutes. Also, long-distance charges may apply.
